Yorkie Grooming Tips for Special Areas

Many people do not realize than when they are grooming their dog, they must remember the ears, eyes, nails and even the nose.  They tend to forget this because the standard ideas most people have is that grooming is about the dogs coat, whether it needs to be bathed, or just brushed, and some dogs need a trimming or even a top knot.  However, part of a full required grooming session involves paying attention to these special areas so your pet can continue to smell, see, and hear with no difficulties.  Remember that these areas should be addressed at each grooming, however do not fret, it only takes approximately 5 minutes to add these simple tasks, so you are able to greatly improve your dogs quality of life in less than 5 minutes per grooming session.  How much better can you get? 

Grooming Your Dog’s Eyes 

Keeping your yorkies eyes clean is an important part of keeping them well groomed and happy. Clean them regularly, using a damp cloth to remove any material from the area.

Grooming Your Dog’s Ears 

A regular cleaning habit will be enough for most people. However, if you want to clean the inside of your ears, use moistened napkins or soft towels to gently wipe away any excess wax and other elements that cause irritation and ear infections. Ear cleaning is done by veterinarians and not more than once a year, with the exception of complications such as infection. Deep ear cleaning is completely regarded as unnecessary and potentially harmful for the animal. Never attempt to clean any area of an ear that isn’t visible.

Grooming Your Dog’s Snout 

It is convenient to remove any dirt from the animal’s snout using a cotton ball or a cloth moistened in warm water to avoid it from getting too dry.  Besides, in animals that have wrinkled faces, such as the Bulldog, it is a good idea to get rid of the food remains that could be in between the foldings of the skin, to avoid bacterial proliferation.  This should be done daily or at least every two or three days.

Dog Nail cutting 

It is essential that your dog keeps its nails short; otherwise, there could be some serious complications to the locomotive apparatus.  Some animals’ use their nails quicker than others, that are why you need to look after your pet’s nails a few times a month to make sure they are ok.  A pedicure is also a good option, and it should be utilized once or twice a month at most.
