Reasons You Should Not Breed Animals E-mail

Many people think that breeding of animals, regardless of species is a great experiment.  They try mixing various breeds, and attempt to see what they come out with.  Others get into breeding for good reasons.  Let me list a few of the reasons that are not good enough to breed.  You can then decide for yourself if it is a good idea for you to breed little Fifi, or Scraps the cat.

First, if you are wanting to breed your animal solely so your child can see the miracle of birth, or even you can see this miracle then please let me direct you to the nearest cable equipped television.  There are shows on television, such as the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and even the Health channels that can assist you with this desire.  There is no reason at all, to breed an animal for this purpose.  There are literally thousands of poor animals in the shelters today, and with fewer homes, breeding just cause you think it would be cool to watch is a bad idea.

Secondly, you should never mix breeds especially dogs unless you know what you are doing.  A poodle does not need to be mixed with every other species of dog in the world in order for the world to continue spinning.  If you are just experimenting with this idea, you should not be breeding at all.  Yes, there are breeders who are breeding mixed dogs, however the good responsible breeders are doing this and doing plenty of research to back up their breeding programs as well.  They are not simply placing 2 dogs in a room together.  The responsible breeders are attempting to create a dog that has an improved specific trait, which they are fairly confident they can breed in the offspring of a particular mating.

Third, you think little Fifi should experience motherhood at least once.  This may come as a shock, but little Fifi will never know what she is missing if she is never a mother.  Animals do not have the “biological clocks” that human women tend to have.  Fifi will not require years of therapy to assist her in getting over the tragedy of never having children.  Perhaps instead, you should get a playmate for Fifi to play with instead.

Breeding is a very serious matter that should only be undertaken under the correct circumstances.  You should always take your pet to a qualified veterinarian before breeding them to ensure they are healthy.  The last thing you want to do is breed your pet, and cause them a premature death.  With proper precautions, it is perfectly safe to breed.

Aggression

Does the idea of a dog standing protectively in front of their possessions strike you are normal?  Do you see a dog growling when someone approaches their food as normal?  If so, you need to be aware of how dangerous this behavior can truly be.

Coming Home

It is always exciting when you decide to add a new member to the family, whether it is a child, or a furbaby.  However, a furbaby requires almost as much preparation as a real baby does, if you stop and think about it.

Reward?

When training your puppy and in the course of reading anything on dog training you will hear of rewarding your dog.  However, what exactly is a reward?  Must it really be a high calorie treat that is bad for your beloved pet?  What else would your pet consider a treat?
