Dog Fur Explained E-mail
Have you wondered exactly what type of fur your dog has?  Most people must determine this fully before even beginning to learn how to groom their dog, or even knowing what tools they will need to purchase.  Many clippers and combs as well as brushes depend upon the fur type as to how well each style works.  Some combs and brushes work better on smooth coats than on silky coats and vice versa.  I am going to take this time to help ease you through the pain and headache involved in determining, this is especially helpful if you have a mixed breed dog.  Pure breed dogs tend to be easier since their coats can be found in the AKC standards; however, mix breed dogs tend to be a bit more difficult.

Grooming the special areas on your dog E-mail

Many people do not realize than when they are grooming their dog, they must remember the ears, eyes, nails and even the nose.  They tend to forget this because the standard ideas most people have is that grooming is about the dogs coat, whether it needs to be bathed, or just brushed, and some dogs need a trimming or even a top knot.  However, part of a full required grooming session involves paying attention to these special areas so your pet can continue to smell, see, and hear with no difficulties.  Remember that these areas should be addressed at each grooming, however do not fret, it only takes approximately 5 minutes to add these simple tasks, so you are able to greatly improve your dogs quality of life in less than 5 minutes per grooming session.  How much better can you get?

Dog Grooming E-mail
There is no reason you cannot groom your dog by yourself, as long as you have the time, and patience to learn.  This has been written primarily for a Yorkie or Yorkshire Terrier however, it can easily be adapted to almost any other breed in existence. The type of coat that your dog has will affect what Shampoos and Conditioners you will be using.  Just as the type of water you have, hard or soft, will affect the performance of the different products.  All you can do is to try different ones.  However, please, use good salon quality products if you choose to use the ones made for humans.  If you notice, the skin looks dry, or if there is an excess amount of itching change products.  You will also want to periodically change products, and/or use a clarifying type to remove residue that can build up.  Even though one shampoo works great for weeks, all of a sudden, the shine is gone, the cause is build-up.
